About our training courses

Don’s Security Services, Inc. (DSS) is licensed by the New York State Department of State – Division of Licensing Services as a Security Guard Training School. DSS offers a variety of security training courses including all the required courses necessary to obtain or keep current your New York State Security Guard Card.

In addition, DSS offers courses in Pepper Spray, Handcuffing, Defensive Tactics and Crime Scene Investigations. Persons or guards who wish to obtain their pistol permit can take the required Basic Firearms Safety Course at DSS. New this year is a special course for those who wish additional training or education in the field of Private Investigations & Surveillance Techniques. Assistance is also provided for those persons or guards who wish to pursue a Private Investigators license.

DSS also offers certain courses “on the road”. This is where our instructors will come to your place of business to put on training courses exclusively for your employees at your training facility. (Advance notice and pre-approval is needed)  Training brochures are available and may be requested by contacting DSS. Courses of interest may be tailored to your organizational needs with proper notice and weekend training hours are available for those who need training without losing work hours during the week.

Role of a Security Guard: Provides an overview of a security industry and defines duties typically performed by security guards.

Legal Powers & Limitations: Defines the differences between security guards and law enforcement officials and explains the procedures for an arrest made by a security guard.

Emergency Situations: Provides an overview of different types of emergencies and methods of response to be performed by security guards.

Communications & Public Relations: Explanation of the communication process and identify how perceptions affect interaction.

Access Control: Identify the elements of access control and identification and define three types of access control.

Ethics: Defines and explains the importance of the Code of Ethics for security guards.

Review and Examination: Review materials. Multiple choice and true/false examination will be given on the topics covered. Students must achieve a minimum of 70% to satisfactorily complete this course.

Employment:  This course by NO means guarantees employment with DSS. If a student wishes, they may bring their resume to the course to be kept on file and reviewed for future employment openings.
