Pre-Licensing Bundle – 8Hr Pre-Assignment & 16Hr On-the-Job – Fri 6/20, Sat 6/21, & Sun 6/22
This 8-Hr Pre-Assignment + 16-Hr On-the-Job bundle is perfect for individuals starting from scratch to obtain their NYS Security Guard License! Friday’s course will be the 8 hours of Pre-Assignment, then the following two days (Sat & Sun) will be the 16 hours of On-the-Job training (this does not mean sixteen hours of training for a specific job site, the course name is called “On-the-Job”).
Normal pricing is $75 for Pre-Assignment and $135 for On-the-Job, so this bundle saves you $35 off the two classes when you purchase them together!

The 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Security Guard Training Course is a MUST have in order to get your New York State Security License.
This is a one day course that will give passing students a certificate to be mailed in with the registration forms instructors give at the training course. Once the application process is completed, students may go to work right away for any employer while their license is “pending”. Instructors will give our students information on companies or organizations that maybe currently hiring and where to apply.

8 Hour Pre-Assignment Security Guard Training Course
Don’s Security Services offers the 8-Hr Pre-Assignment Security Guard Training course at least ONE per month. When a student registers and pays for the class but can no longer attend, DSS will carry over that payment credit towards our next class date as long as the student calls PRIOR to class beginning.
Class topics:
Role of a Security Guard:
Provides an overview of a security industry and defines duties typically performed by security guards.
Legal Powers & Limitations:
Defines the differences between security guards and law enforcement officials and explains the procedures for an arrest made by a security guard.
Emergency Situations:
Overview of different types of emergencies and methods of response to be performed by security guards.
Communications & Public Relations:
Explanation of the communication process and identify how perceptions affect interaction.
Access Control:
Identify the elements of access control and identification and define three types of access control.
Ethics:
Defines and explains the importance of the Code of Ethics for security guards.
Review and Examination:
Review materials. Instructors will test students on the topics covered in the form of multiple choice and true/false questions. Students must achieve a minimum of 70% to satisfactorily complete this course.
Employment:
This course by NO means guarantees employment with DSS. DSS accepts student resumes, which are kept on file and reviewed for future employment openings.
16Hr On the Job Training Course
Security guards must complete the 16Hr On the Job Training course within 90 days of gainful employment as a security officer in order to keep their Guard Card active.
Guards must complete the 16Hr Training course ONE TIME, within the first 3 months of being on the job. Failure to complete this course may result in guard card expiration. Students must attend both class days in their entirety, as well as pass the exam at the end of day 2.

Access control
Mental Awareness
Juvenile Laws
Ethics and conduct
Incident command system
Report writing
Part I:
This course expands upon the topics covered during the Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course. In addition, this is a required course once a security guard has been employed (whether full or part time) a security guard M U S T complete this training course within 90 days of gainful employment.
Part II:
This training may be an extension to Part I or additional topics such as, but not limited to: Sexual Harassment in the Work Place, Preliminary Investigations, Officer Survival Techniques, Incident Command System, Ethics & Conduct, Court Room Demeanor, Terrorism, Chemical Suicides, Managing Aggressive Behavior, Report Writing, Mental Awareness, Juvenile Laws, etc.
Review and examination. Students must achieve a minimum of 70% to satisfactorily complete this MANDATED training.

Don’s Security Services will give directions on all post-class steps which include:
New York State Security Guard Renewal Form.
Checking guard card status on the Division of Licensing Services – Licensee Name Search website
*Students must pass examinations for both 8Hr Pre-Assignment & 16Hr On-the-Job– required for successful completion*
All students must come prepared with photo ID on the day of class. For example, a state-issued driver’s license, non-driver ID card (NDID), passport, etc. Please call prior to registering in the event a student does not have any form of photo ID.
If a guard hasn’t received their renewal paperwork from NYS, they should visit this website to obtain another copy. The state ONLY sends Guard card renewal forms via USPS to the address on file for each Guard. Students cannot print this form from the State website.
In the event a guard has changed their address and needs to update records with the state, they can download a form HERE to send into the state.
