Description
For Armed Guards, this 8-hour Firearms Recertification Course must be taken & completed within 12 months from when the completion of the 47 Hour Firearms Training Course occurred, as well as annually thereafter. Prior to registration, ALL students must possess a valid pistol license pursuant to NY Penal Law Section 400.00, & a valid NYS security guard registration card.
The course consists of:
-3 hours of NYS Penal Law Article 35 (Use of Force/Deadly Physical Force)
-5 hours of range instruction and qualification
-students must pass a written examination on Article 35 & qualify on the range with a handgun in order to complete the course.
At completion of the 8-hr Firearms Recertification Course, DSS will give directions on all post-class steps which include:
Security Guard Renewal form (mailed to your home address from NYS Division of Licensing Services)
Checking guard card status on the Division of Licensing Services – Licensee Name Search website
All students must come prepared with photo ID on the day of class. For example: state-issued driver’s license, non-driver ID card (NDID), passport, etc. If a student does not have any form of photo ID, call and discuss prior to registering for this course.
